Historia Alterna
In this project, we had to choose one event in history and try and think about what would happen if that event never occurred, or if it was affected in a big way. For example, me and my group's what if question was "What if the Protestant Reformation never happened?" Basically, the Protestant Reformation was a 16th century movement started by Martin Luther, who aimed to reform the Roman Catholic Church’s beliefs and practices because the Church had become corrupt with money and power. During the 16th century, religious ideals fueled political ideologies. In our alternate timeline, the Catholic Church continued to grow in political power, and Martin Luther did not write the 95 theses. The church used indulgences in order to gain money and fool the public, like having to pay money in order to be cleansed of your sins.
We then had to create an art piece to express what would have happened, for example, me and my group created 2 stained glass art pieces and then created artifacts from the alternate timeline. My group did stained glass to match the theme of religion and the church. Our artifacts were a bible that was locked up, to represent the church hiding information and manipulating the public. We also came up with a fake currency that we believe the church would have created because of how much money they were getting, so we 3D printed coins with our own design. Or final artifact was a telescope chained up, to represent their ignorance for science.
In all honesty, I really liked this project and I learned a lot about history! I am very proud of my final project as well.
