The Nacho's Tacos Project
This was our first Spanish project of the year. We were assigned to order food at our local taco shop, Nacho's Tacos, in Spanish. We had to memorize our order and learn how to comprehend what the cashier was saying, because they only spoke Spanish.
For my first Spanish project of the year, I have to say this went fairly well! I did a great job at getting critique from Spanish speakers to improve my Spanish speaking and writing skills. I constantly practiced with different people to get better at comprehending Spanish. I made sure I was fully prepared with my script and I was very organized.
Although I feel like I was mostly prepared for this project, I do not think I was very confident when actually speaking at Nachos Tacos. I stuttered a lot, (although, that’s usually a norm for me) and I accidentally said “Thank you” in English after ordering, but I did correct myself and said “gracias.”
The most significant part I felt was actually being in a situation where I needed to speak Spanish. It was very nice to be able to practice for the real thing, and it made me feel a lot better when the cashier understood what I was saying. Now I know I’ll be ready to go in case a situation like that was brought upon me.
My Spanish skills have grown immensely because of this project. Writing the script helped me with Spanish written communication, my script went through rounds of critique to make sure the grammar and spelling was up to par. However, I think my Spanish comprehension skills is what improved a lot during this project. I never practiced Spanish comprehension very much last year so this is very new to me, which is why I really liked practicing it.
Here is my script and vocabulary words that I studied for this project:
