Mythological Mobiles
In this project we were paired in groups of 3. I was with Gio and Carolina, and we worked very well together. We all completed the tasks that we were given by our other groups members, which, in turn, made us able to complete our mobile entirely. However, I feel as if I could have communicated with my partners a bit more.
When reading Eurydice, the book contained many metaphors and poetic writing throughout the text, which I had to use my reading skills I have learned in Humanities to decipher. When researching our country, I had to use the research skills I have learned in Humanities as well. Such as knowing the difference between reliable sources and unreliable ones, and how to cite info in MLA format. When designing the art pieces for our mobile, it caused me to use the creative thinking we do a lot of in humanities, thus helping me create creative and symbolistic art pieces for my mobile. I think overall I was proud of what I offered to the group. I would grade myself an A, because I did strongly in almost all of the class values. Especially work ethic, because I put in a lot of effort into my work that I didn’t have to do. For instance, for my graph paper with the drawing of our mobile and the math for it, I scaled the whole thing. I didn’t have to scale it, but I did because I thought that it would make it easier to comprehend and more professional. However, I didn’t give myself the full A+ because I didn’t communicate with my group members as well as I would have liked to. I demonstrated responsibility by doing all of the tasks I was assigned by my group members, as well as assigning them myself. I demonstrated grit by taking a leadership role most of this project. I usually don’t like being a leader, but in this instance, I had to. Though it was tough, I must admit, I did a pretty good job when taking the leadership role.
I demonstrated respect by respecting my group members time and availability. Carolina wasn’t at school on the final day when the project was due, but I respected her time and didn’t get frustrated with her. Instead me and Gio powered through the work and eventually got it done. I demonstrated integrity also when I took the leadership role. I could have done nothing to coordinate my group, but I did because I knew it was the right thing to do. I demonstrated empathy by helping out not just my group, but other groups as well with their problems. Overall, this was a pretty fun project to do and I’m thankful I had such a great group to work with. |
In Physics we learned about equilibrium. This was essential to make our mobiles balance, so we needed to use our physics thinking in order to fully understand the concept of our mobiles. We learned about torque, which was one of the main building blocks of our mobile, and the main unit of math we focused on throughout the project. We also learned about forces, which helped us understand the different masses on our mobiles and how it affected the torque and equilibrium.
In Engineering I learned how to use a scroll saw, which allowed me cut out the shapes of our symbols for each of the tiers on our mobile. I also learned how to use a belt sander to help me better shape our symbols. I learned the proper way to clean acrylic paint off of brushes, and how to vectorize images to laser cut. |
